Trillium by Jeff Lemire

I’m a huge fan of Jeff Lemire’s work. The man is very talented as both a writer and an artist, and sometimes, as is the case with this book, he pulls a double duty. This one’s unusual, though, because normally he does both for more slice-of-life stories, and Trillium is an all-out science fiction.
Or technically, a love story wrapped in science fiction foil.
Two angular weirdos (the way Lemire draws them, all his people look pretty much the same) find each other across time and place. The man is a WWI veteran, the woman is a botanical explorer from several centuries ahead of him. They don’t share the same world or speak the same language, but it doesn’t stop them, because it’s just that romantic.
It’s all ever so slightly convoluted with upside down panels and loping around plot, but all-in-all it works. A fun enjoyable read.
